Oversampling enriches the original audio file by creating intermediate samples calculated from the original sequence.

This approximates the sequence of samples that would have been obtained if the recording had been made at a higher sampling rate. The sound rendering depends on the quality of the calculation algorithm used to define these samples and the converter that will receive them.

Activating upsampling in Audirvāna

You can upsample your audio files directly in Audirvāna before they are played back on your system using one of two built-in high-performance algorithms (SOX -SoundExchange and R8 Brain) that rely on your computer's computing power.

In this article:

Step 1: Open Audirvāna audio settings

Click on the settings button at the top right of Audirvāna to open the settings:

You can also access the audio settings of Audirvāna if you click on the speaker iconat the bottom right of Audirvāna:

Note: you cannot change the audio settings while playback is active, even if paused. Click on the lock icon to unlock the access to the audio output.

Step 2: Open Upsampling settings

You then need to click the steering wheel in the upsampling section and then select the setting you want to put to enable upsampling:

Please read this article to know more about each upsampling setting you can set.

Note: Keep in mind that increasing the resolution of your music throuhg oversampling is increasing also the bandwidth requirements on your network.
So if you were using the network both to retrieve the audio file and then to send them from Audirvāna to your audio device, it can be an overload on the network causing some unwanted stops.
In this case, you should maybe reduce the oversampling rate or use wired connection on part of the audio path.
